Baby Wong: Third Trimester
The Home Stretch
Hello home stretch! I truly cannot believe how fast pregnancy went! I remember the day I found out so vividly. These last 9 months were truly a glorious time for me and I have been so blessed to have had such a wonderful pregnancy. It is so hard to believe after this final phase our baby girl will be here! We truly cannot wait…
baby wong is almost here!
Can’t believe we made it to the end. What a joyous time it has been bonding with this little life inside me. Rashawn and I definitely feel more in love than ever and just cannot wait for the day we welcome this little girl Earth side. This Trimester went by so fast because it was jammed packed with so much LIFE. Rashawn and I got married on zoom, went on a mini Honeymoon/Babymoon, and I got to go back to work at the Hilton! It was all so amazing and filled our tanks all the way up.
Besides all of the major life moments, we got to take this last trimester to do final baby prepping, take some virtual classes, and just do everything in our power to set our selves up for this soon to be Family. You might remember from the last trimester how we decided to convert our second room into a Nursery. I made some fun posters, finished decorating, and put all the final touches to make it the perfect space for us and baby girl when she comes. I have chosen to give birth at the Birth Center of Denver, so we got to take some virtual classes with them! It was so fun to all sit around on a big zoom call and deep dive into labor, postpartum and everything in between to get ready. It was such a blessing to be able to still do that with Covid, even virtually.
how am i feeling?
I truly feel so so blessed to have handled pregnancy so well. Not only have I felt amazing almost every step of the way (ok minus that first trimester morning sickness!), but also have gone through without any complications. There is so so much that can happen to you in this journey and it’s so nerve wracking! From the baby tests, diabetes tests, strep tests and everything else in between, a lot can happen to you and your baby in this time. Each time a test approached I would get so anxious the day before and just pray that I did everything I could and my body was handling things correctly. Every pass or negative I got back was the biggest relief that my body was made for this!
A lot of what I read or heard was how uncomfortable you can get in the third trimester. But each day I just continued to wake up and love on this growing belly! It sure grew a LOT in this last stretch and I definitely became and expert in gaining weight ha! I just enjoy every extra pound and bite of ice cream though :)
Besides a bigger belly, the only negative I have experienced this whole pregnancy is some swollen feet here at the end. I would say right at 38 weeks I noticed some puffiness and my favorite shoes were a thing of a the past! They didn’t hurt and thankfully it was just in my feet, but definitely one of those things that just come with the territory. Other than that I have felt great!
a baby shower and a WEDDING!
Even in the time of Covid my friends and family made me feel like the luckiest soon to be mom in the world. Rashawn and I had a big wedding planned for July 11th, but slowly as we got deeper into the Pandemic we realized it just wasn’t going to be realistic. We had invited people from all over the US and with group gatherings, travel, and just life up in the air we decided to postpone. My best friend Georgia still had her ticket to come for the ‘wedding’ and we didn’t want to let it go to waste so she still flew out for the weekend! Her and her mom, actual angles on Earth, went above and BEYOND and surprised me and my mom with a mini baby shower!
It was truly on of the best days of my life and something I will never forget. They spoiled me and this baby girl and just filled my heart with so much joy. We laughed so much this day just reminiscing on childhood stories (we have been friends since first grade!), and talking about birth and stories of motherhood with our moms. It was truly the most special day, and something I was not expecting at all. I love this gal like a sister, and her mom has always felt like a second mom to me. SO so blessed.
Even though we had to postpone our wedding, we still wanted to sign our marriage license and become one before we welcome this gal into our life. Rashawn and I talked about keeping our date of July 11th, 2020 and it gave me the greatest idea! Rashawn is ALWAYS surprising me and going above and beyond to spoil me and make me feel special, so I wanted to finally do that for him. A month before the ‘big day’ I decided to plan a surprise zoom wedding for him! My parents live here, so I decided to go in with them and plan a mini backyard wedding that our friends and family could virtually join. To make it the ULTIMATE surprise I decided to fly out his dad!! He was so shocked and happy it made the day that much more meaningful. My parents and I decorated the backyard and set up a big zoom call and we had our selves one magical zoom Covid wedding. You can read the full story and see more pictures in my wedding post here!
what have i been doing?
A lot of my time was spent at work to be honest! But any other waking moment, I spent finishing my little girls space. I decided to put my graphic design skills to the test and make her some one of a kind posters for her room! It was so fun to think of a theme and add such a personal touch to her room. I have never been much of a decorator, and Rashawn and I are like King and Queen of hand-me-downs. Our whole house is just filled with things I have scored on Next door, old furniture from family and friends, and lots of good Ikea deals. But when we decided to make a room for our baby, we wanted to to be fresh and new. So many of friends went above and beyond gifting us things for the space, or I found good deals on Target and Amazon! There are still some hand-me-down items, but I just gave them new life so you would never know :) It truly has turned into my favorite spot in our home and I just cannot wait to make the best memories with her in here!
back to work!
Besides all that nesting and getting ready, I was also SO blessed to get to go back to work. What a wild time this Pandemic was especially for work. While my hotel started as essential work, that last week of March we had to officially close our doors due to such low occupancy. It was honestly the biggest blessing at first because I just got to be home taking care of myself and this little life I was growing! It gave me time to prepare in ways I would never have had the chance to other wise. It also kept me way less stressed, I was able to stay active and go on long walks with Leo, and just enjoy the phases and stages of pregnancy. After a couple months I was getting anxious and had that itch to be working again, plus I missed my work family!
On July 1st we were lucky enough to open our doors again and I got to go back to work! Everything was SO different. We had to wear masks, have social distance practices in place and take on a lot more work. No matter how hard it was at some moments I wouldn’t trade any of it, because it felt so good to have some sense of normalcy. It defiantly is hard to wear a mask in an industry where a smile goes so far! My sweet boss is also pregnant though and that made work 1000 times better! It was so fun just to talk about all things baby all day and have someone to relate to with everything happening in life. She truly is the best!
what have I learned
The third trimesters biggest lesson was balance. It helped me really get in the mindset of life with a little one and a taste of what being a working mom would really be like! I learned everything I could about pregnancy in those first two trimesters, this time was truly used for digging deeper into my self and how I see myself as a mother. I learned how to become a wife and make important life decisions! Basically this trimester really made me dig deep into adulthood and what life will look like in the future :) I am so thankful to have Rashawn on this journey with me and his support and love through every single step. He has truly been the best friend and life partner I could ever ever ask for!
This phase of life and pregnancy has been a dream! I cannot wait to watch this belly continue to grow, feel lots of kicks, and work my way into the Third Trimester and Birth! Hopefully we can decide on a name too :) I feel SO ready to meet this little girl!!
At 40 weeks and 4 days I gave birth to a beautiful little angel. Our sweet Nyla girl was born all naturally on August 25, 2020 coming in at a sweet 6 lbs and 15 oz. She ended up being delivered at St. Joseph hospital, which was not the original plan, but ended up being the most magical experience we could have asked for.
