Nakalele Lookout
Maui's coastal magic
Maui is full of beautiful coasts. The Valley Isle provides when it comes to beautiful drives, blue waters, and pit stops! The Nakalele Lookout is home to a great viewpoint, blowhole, and heart shaped rock! These blue waters will blow you away!
The hike down to the Blowhole and heart shaped rock is about a mile down the mountain. We opted out of going down because we wanted to stop and swim at the Olivine TidePools and didn't want to spend to much time hiking around and tiring our selves out. But we did see the blowhole from up here!
We had enough fun taking pictures with this amazing backdrop. I wanted to just dive in the water is so inviting! I would recommend this stop regardless if you make the journey down to the blowhole or not becuase it is so beautiful and is a good place to stretch your legs! This drive is known for its pin-haired turns and narrow roads.
We took our time, as should you! One becuase there is so much to see so why would you want to speed by?! And two like I just said, this road is full of switchbacks and tiny turns so if you are prone to motion sickness pack the Dramamine before hand! It is important to stop lots and get fresh air regardless if your sick. The driving is intense so make sure you are comfortable behind the wheel!
how to get here
This is mile marker 38 on the Kahekili Highway. There is a large area for parking and then a few visible paths to go down to the blowhole! You can choose any path, they will all lead the same but their is more than likely people around you can follow or team up with! Be careful when hiking down to the blowhole becuase the rock can be loose, I always recommend walking sideways for better grip!
warning
The blowhole is not a waterpark splash pad, it will suck you in. Please stay back and admire from a distance. People have died here. Use common sense and good judgment. Also, in times of high tide, large waves can come and sweep you off your feet so avoid the areas during high tides.
