Silent Disco
Art After Dark: AfroFuture
On Friday night I got to Dance my booty off at the Honolulu Museum of Art for their Art After Dark event! This month to wrap up Black History Month they hosted a Silent Disco with the theme of AfroFuture. I have seen a few silent discos in places like New York and immediately put it on my Bucket List. This really is the future of parties!
Check out some clips above! Be sure to watch in HD!
The event was with Sound Off Experience. So how it works is that everyone is handed their own bluetooth adjustable headset with three channels and adjustable volume. Their were three DJ's and each channel corresponded to a color! You could pick which ever station hit your groove and then you Dance! It is such a cool concept and everyone was really having a great time! Here is a event finder near you with Sound Off so you can see the next silent disco by you!
At the end of every month the last Friday is the Art After Dark event help from 6pm-9pm at the museum. Here is the previous and upcoming as well as all the information on the events!
The museum was open for everyone to view the exhibits as well which was great! The Honolulu Art Museum is an open building like most in Hawaii which makes the museum so unique! To visit the museum on your own prices and hours can be found here.
We were 'volunteer dancers' for our club Afrocentric Society of Hawaii, which is a new club at the University of Hawaii at Manoa my friends started, so if you go to UH look at our Facebook page and join us! The club is for all African-American students and those who are fascinated with the culture, so it is open for everyone! It is such a great idea I can't wait to watch it grow.
This was right after the event started but by the time the sun went down the dance floor was beyond packed! So many people were sprouting real (and fake) Afros for the night!
For those interested come to Saunders 617 at 4:30pm every first and last Thursday of the month!
