Maui Ocean Center
Maui Aquarium
While on Maui we decided to check out the Maui Ocean Center because we were told it was the best Aquarium on all of the islands! I can defiantly say it was better than Oahu's sadly, you would think for such a tropical place the aquarium would be great, but I guess they let the oceans do all the showing off :)
Maui's Ocean Center raises these black tip sharks from babies until they are bit older and able to survive on there own! They also do the same thing with some of the turtles they have here. All of the fish are so beautiful and they black tip sharks swim peacefully through the tanks.
The exhibits were really impressive with huge tanks full of colorful bright fish as you can see. They are home to tons of species of marine life and take great care of the tanks they live in! The ocean center is open daily from 9:00am until 5:00pm, and in July and August it stays open until 6:00 pm!
Some of the fish were bigger than the sharks! And one of the workers also told us they were more aggressive. There are so many misconceptions about sharks, and while I would still be scared to creep up on one snorkeling, I respect them and understand what an important part to marine life they are!
Another super cool animal they Maui Ocean Center is home for is Hawaiian Broad Stingray! They are massive!! On the big island you can swim with there giants and after seeing just how large they are in person, I might be reconsidering! They are beautiful and I could watch them glide through the water for hours though!
They have so many cool smaller tanks and exhibits with lots of unique fish and marine animals! Some things I have never even seen or heard of before! It is a super fun activity no matter the age, the ocean is always impressive! To get into the aquarium the prices are as follows:
- Adult: $27.95
- Child (9-12): $19.95
- Senior: $24.95
They do offer military discount, and Kama'aina (with valid Hawai'i ID)! More detailed information about price can be found here.
A super fun part of the aquarium is the interactive section where you can touch starfish and other sea creatures!
