This probably is not the first image you had in mind when thinking of Wisconsin. Cheese? Snow? Beer? Maybe those are more reasonable, but a beach!? It was surely not what I expected, I mean it didn’t even show up in my things to do in Wisconsin search! But thank goodness our local friend Jon saved the day.
what is bradford beach?
This beautiful coast line is actually a lake - and a famous one too Lake Michigan! It is part of the five great lakes and touches quite a few states up here. I have fond memories of playing in it with my cousins in Michigan when we were little. So while it’s not the salty water you expect, you can be reassured knowing there are no lurking creatures….at lest that we know of 😜
When Should I come?
The peak season for Bradford Beach is June through August. This is when the water is warmest and lifeguards are on duty. The beach is always open from 11 am - 5 pm, 7 days a week all year long. But the water temperatures drop to a very chilling degree making the beat time to come in Summer.

No grilling or bonfires
No inflatables are allowed
can you get in the water?
Sometimes. During the regular season mentioned above, the water does become warm enough to play in! We came in October, so when I dipped my toes in they turned into ice haha. However we did see boats on the water and my friend said boats can be common all year. Just always remember to wear appropriate swim wear.
Our friend Jon lives in Wisconsin and invited us to stay with him for a few days and show us around his city! It was so much fun and I love getting to travel and meet up with friends. It always amazes me to look back at all the places we have been with our besties!
This was truly one of the most beautiful views of Lake Michigan I have ever seen. In some parts it can look very brown, or dark green so to see it so blue and beach like was amazing! It absolutely made me miss Hawaii…
