Seven Magic Mountains

THE MAGIC OF DESERT ART

a detailed look into the colorful magic mountains of nevada

Let's be honest, does one really go to Vegas without the iconic Seven Magic Mountain pic? I think not 😎. This art exhibit has been on my 'insta' bucketlist for a while. I convinced my mom to make a drive with me and let's just say... it's totally worth it.

These boulders are truly out in the middle-of-no-where-las-vegas. The drive will take about 25 minutest from the strip but again, it is absolutely worth it. The reason this installation is all the way out here is because artist Ugo Rondinone wanted the exhibit to be physically and sybolically half way between the natural and artificial. There is a small sign with a phone number displayed where you can listen to some brief descriptions of Ugo and his piece [702.381.5182]

These bright mountains are about 35 feet tall! And yes - they are real boulders. They are all locally sourced and hand (spray)painted. Ugo is known for his use of color and I am just in awe of these colors and how well they go together out here in the desert.

These boulders can each weigh up to 30 tons and while they are extremely secure and stable please refrain from any obstruction or climbing on the rocks. This is an art exhibit and here for the publics enjoyment and visual pleasure.

Check out the process of the Seven Magic Mountains! You can see the whole journey on sevenmagicmountains.com and watch more videos under the 'learn' tab.

I really was so happy to finally get to pose here and see it in person. However, don't let this image fool you there were tonnss of others here, I just cropped them out ;) #worthit

This exhibit is completely free but HURRY. These magic mountains are only going to be here until years end 12/31/18! It was only a two year exhibit out in the Vegas Desert. However, due to its popularity and and draw there is a chance it will hang around longer!

EDIT: The Seven Magic Mountains are here to stay for THREE MORE YEARS! A new contract has been made allowing the colorful rocks to stay parked outside Vegas until 2021. However, if we all keep coming to visit - there is a chance it will become a permeant exhibit!

what to know before you go

There is zero shade at this exhibit and it is in the desert - bring water!! An umbrella would also not hurt if you know you get miserable when hot :) They do have an unrelated snack cart where someone sells cold drinks and a few snacks like chips. This exhibit is absolutely FREE. Please no graffiti or damaging the sculptures. Also please keep off them.
