Graffiti Alley
art in the city
Welcome to Graffiti Alley, home to some of the most colorful streets in the 6! This unique compound of alley ways is full of bright, popping, unreal GRAFFITI! But, this is not your average spay can art, these designs will truly blow your mind!
While you are sure to see some amazing art here, Toronto has beautiful art work all over! After visiting Graffiti Alley, I challenge you to wonder through the streets of Downtown Toronto and see what you can find! This city has can easily be named as one of the best street art cities in the world.
Walking between the building and see such beautiful detailed work, all from spray cans blew my mind! Contributors to the Alley come from all over the world to add there mark to the famous streets of Toronto. I think it is so impressive, and it is so intresting to see the varities of art.
If you like to take pictures than Graffiti Alley is your spot! There are so many great photo ops and unreal murals to pose by. We visited Toronto in March and it was soooo chilly! If it had been warmer, I think our camera roll could have easily been 100 deep ;)
Seeing the Graffiti reach the tops of buildings will surely make you wonder! Harness? Ladders? Just HOW did they do it?! Toronto is a city of expression, so artists can paint on buildings downtown, and then through an organization called StART, they can submit photos of their work to streetart@toronto.ca for a chance to be legit! Once it is approved, the city will recognize it as street art and they will protect it from being cleaned or vandalized.
This was my favorite mural out of them all! Maybe it was the colors, maybe it was the fish :) regardless it was unreal. The painting covers the entire building floor to ceiling! I can't even imagine how long it took but it is PERFECT in my eyes! If you visit, tag me in your pictures @saltwatervibesblog of your favorite mural. They are constantly chaning so I gaurentee youll see something new!
do you freely wonder?
Yes! You can simply just walk on through, but if you wanted to learn a bit more history, terminology, or simply don't want to miss a piece than TourGuys will gladly take you for FREE! Can I paint here?
Like mentioned above, anyone can paint in the streets of Toronto and submit there work, but it can also be denied by the city. They ask that you DO NOT paint over other peoples art, especially in the alley way. There is plenty of open space to go around! If you are still unsure about the specific rules, call 416-392-CITY (2489) and make sure!
how do i get here?
The alley way is located between Spadina Ave. to Portland Street. You can access the back entrance on Queen Street and Richmond. If you have an iPhone simply searching "Graffiti Alley" will also bring you there!
